Behold, The Power of Reputation Management

The easiest way to maintain and keep a good reputation is to simply not do things you know may be viewed in a bad light. However, good people do make mistakes, sometimes without even knowing it.

What Everyone Else Thinks

Don’t say you don’t care what anyone else thinks because it’s just not true. What everyone else thinks of you is a direct result of your reputation maintenance abilities combined with your real character.

“Reputation is what people know about us, character is who we really are.”

We must make sure our character is reflected well in our reputation, it is YOUR responsibility (or your reputation managers’) to ensure people know your good deeds, actions and thoughts.

The world may see you and judge you based on a few things, when in reality you are made up of thousands of things. Whether those things are good, bad or ugly determines our character. What the world knows determines our reputation.

Reputation Can Be Damaged In A Second

A bad reputation can bring a moment, day, week or life of hell. A single slip and our reputation can be damaged forever, it may not ever matter how innocent you really were or how much truth there is to the gossip, if enough people heard about it or saw some small piece of it, it will never go away.

“A man can build a thousand bridges and suck one cock, and he is not a bridge builder, he is a cocksucker.”

How We Are Judged & How To Combat It

People remember the last thing they knew about you the most.

When You Finish Well

If you were the company’s biggest jerk off for 5 years and in the last month of your employment treated everyone like kings and queens, it will literally psychologically instill in them the memory of you being a saint at that company.

When You Finish Badly

If you were a saint at the same company for 5 years and in the last month became a jerk off to everyone during the last month of your employment, people will remember you as that jerk off.

One of my idols, Nick Vujicic, says “It doesn’t matter that you won, it matters how you finished. Are you going to finish strong?” www.lifewithoutlimbs.org

Even saints have false rumors and gossip which follows them. There is nothing harmful, wrong or shady about managing your known reputation to accurately reflect that of your character.

In today’s world it is not enough to simply be a good person, you must let the good things you have done be known, so that others will know it, see it and learn from it. Everyone makes mistakes, and through proper reputation management we can adjust those mistakes, call them learning experiences and turn them into positive, inspirational motive for others.

It’s time to do a little spring cleaning in your life and in the minds of everyone who sees you in a dimmer light.

Why People Judge & How To Manage Your Reputation

In February of 2014, I was in a client’s office trying to get him to do more work with me when he said “How can I rely on you when all you do is party?”, I immediately lost my cool, yelled at him and was about to storm out offended, something I rarely ever do. Why did his words get to me so much?

I told him I was offended at that statement and whatever he heard was way off base, all I did was work, I had lost contact with most of my friends and family due to working all day every day for about a year and a half.

I took a minute to calm down and calmly asked him “What makes you think all I do is party?”, and he replied “I see your facebook posts, all you do is sit around by the pool and go to the bar.”

I’d Been Practicing Poor Reputation Management SKills

Bingo, I suddenly realized I had been practicing terrible reputation management by having this client on my friends list on Facebook. No one gets to see me at my desk 90 hours a week because it’s just not fun to talk about or take pictures of, there is nothing exciting about sitting at a computer for 15 hours a day, weekends included, so the fact that I even do that, is unknown to people.

On Friday nights or for lunch on occasion, I would go to the bar to relieve some stress on the punching bag machine and say hello to the only friends I had ‘the people who sing Kareoke’ with me on occasion on the weekends.

The only thing he knew about me was what he saw as Facebook posts, me by the pool for lunch or for that 3 hour moment of glory on Friday or saturday nights when I sing and hit the bag in the back of the bar.

People Only Know What They See & Hear About You

I realized everyone probably saw me as this partier and it was the complete opposite of who I am, I worked all day from the office or from home, I gave everything to my employees as far as pay and comfort but I never told anyone, and one time I had to take out a loan to pay my employees, making myself late on my own rent and bills.

Keep Everyone In The Loop

I never told anyone about it and later came to know that the employees were pissed that their checks were late, think that combined with my Facebook posts and comments about my short weekend glory stories made me a partying slouch who never did anything else.

People were judging me based on what they saw and heard about me, not about who I really was. And it wasn’t just this client, it was almost everyone and no one told me, I had to find out for myself.

Promote The Real You

It was time I started promoting the real me, the guy who spends 15 hours a day every day working hard to deliver good service at an affordable price to people because he loves to help others, and make sure that anything said or done in the public eye reflects my whole self, and not just some little piece of it.

If people got to see the whole me, and still find reason to judge me, then I say let them.

Which leads me to write this, an article on how to manage your reputation.

How To Increase Web Traffic

There are a number of ways to increase web traffic but some of them will hurt your business more than it will help and other ways are little-known tricks that can take your business to the next level. Before proceeding, a word to the wise, steer clear of “black hat” marketing methods, paying companies that promise to send a bunch of traffic, spamming, or buying backlinks to your site. These methods decrease credibility, destroy your search engine ranking, and are a waste of money. On that note, let’s review some positive ways to increase web traffic to your site:

[custom_list style=”list-1″]

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
  • PPC (Pay Per Click advertising)
  • Social Media
  • Remarketing
  • Material Branding
  • Affiliate Marketing[/custom_list]

These are probably the most efficient and cost effective ways to drive traffic to your website but there are likely other creative ideas you could come up with as well to drive awareness of your business. That being said, let’s review each of the above ideas in more depth:

SEO – Search Engine Optimization

What it is: SEO, or search engine optimization, is a long term, reliable way to drive free traffic to your website while increasing business awareness. It’s the process of optimizing a website in order to increase its position on search engines which allows it to show up in more searches on the first page where more users will see and click on it.

How it works: SEO involves optimizing a website to encourage better search engine ranking. This involves a number of things including:

[custom_list style=”list-1″]

  • On-page optimization
  • Off-page optimization
  • Social media[/custom_list]

On-page optimization involves customizing the content of the website in order to make it easier for search engines to read and understand what your website and business is all about. It also involves creating unique, informative content that is helpful to your audience while also being relevant to your industry. There are a number of other things that make up on-page optimization, such as internal linking, meta tags, sitemaps, calls to action, ect…

For assistance with professional SEO, contact the best SEO company by clicking here.

Off-page optimization primarily consists of link building, which is, essentially, talking about your business on other websites and linking to your website.

Social media, which we’ll go into more detail on later, involves keeping in touch with your clients via social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Search engines will pay attention to how involved you are with your followers and how many followers you have on these social media platforms, which means you need to keep your followers involved and interested so they don’t leave and also so that more will start paying attention.

PPC – Pay Per Click Marketing

What it is: PPC marketing is advertising, most commonly used on search engines, that allows you to target specific keywords or websites and show an ad for your business, at which point, if a user clicks on your ad you are then charged a fee.

How it works: Most common program used for PPC advertising is Google AdWords, but there are other services, such as Facebook, which will allow you to advertise your business and only pay when someone clicks on your ad. The beauty of PPC advertising is that it can be extremely targeted to your appropriate audience while only costing you something if and when someone clicks on your ad and goes to your website.

Google AdWords allows you to choose specific keywords or websites you want to advertise on, then you can create a text or image ad to be shown. For instance, if you’re a plumber in Miami, you may target keywords like “Miami plumbing services” or “Miami plumbing company” and when someone who is looking for a plumber in your city types in one of those phrases on Google, your ad will show up.

Facebook, on the other hand, doesn’t target keywords per se, but they do keep a close eye on the goings-on of all their members. This give them very specific information about every user, what they do for a living, how much money they likely make, what their hobbies are, their age, gender, and so much more. This allows you to advertise, again on a pay per click model, to specific demographs, targeting users who are more likely to be interested in your business and buy from you or become a lead. For instance, if you sell women’s make up, you may target the demograph of women from the age of 18 to 45, or on the other hand, if you sell expensive jewelry for women, you may target men between the ages of 25 and 65 who make $100,000+ a year and may want to buy their loved one some nice jewelry.

Social Media Marketing

Social media is one of the most cost effective methods of increasing web traffic. Social marketing involves setting up social networking accounts for your business and periodically providing your followers with updates, special promotions, or other information about your business. Social media marketing is essentially free, as the different platforms typically don’t charge to have an account. The most common platforms are:

[custom_list style=”list-1″]

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Google+
  • YouTube
  • LinkedIn
  • Blog[/custom_list]

These social networks will allow you to keep in touch with your potential customers, receive feedback, increase business awareness, and promote your business. Social marketing will also help to improve your search engine ranking and increase your web traffic. Also take advantage of other free programs to increase your web traffic like Google Places for local businesses, any free business directory, ect…

Remarketing

What it is: Remarketing is a method of advertising your business to people who have already visited your website. It’s extremely cost effective, increases conversion rate, and increases customer retention.

How it works: Now, you may be saying, “how is advertising to people who have already seen my website going to help increase my web traffic?”. Well here’s the deal, most people upon visiting a website for the first time are not going to convert into a customer, so while it’s great to get a lot of traffic to your website, it’s also extremely important to make sure those people come back and make a purchase or contact you. Remarketing works by setting a tracking cookie on each person’s computer when they visit your website. It will then allow you to show ads to those people as they surf the website, showing your ads on different websites that they go to. You then only get charged if the customer clicks on your ad and goes back to your website, which typically means that they are now ready to sign up or make a purchase.

Remarketing increases the credibility of your business by making you seem like a huge brand that ever website wants to display, while in actuality, you’re just following that user around the web and showing your ad only to them wherever they go. Remarketing will also increase your web traffic by reminding your previous visitors to come back to your site when they are ready to move forward with their purchase or service request.

Material Branding

Ever see someone with a t-shirt with a cool design or logo which advertises a website address? You’ve probably seen them all over the place and while you may or may not have actually attempted to look up that website address, there were people who did. Branding, not only your logo, but also website address on your company clothing, pens, vehicles, ect… will increase awareness of your business as well as awareness of your website. Some customers may not even know that you have a website but when they see it next to your logo, they’re like to check out your site and may even recommend it to their friends, write positive reviews, or use it to make their purchases which lowers your overhead. Material branding never hurts to do and can also help increase web traffic, so there’s no reason not to do it.

Affiliate Marketing

What it is: Affiliate marketing is like an outsourced sales team. You pay other people a percentage, a gift, discount, or royalty for sending you business. Kind of like a referral program but on a higher scale.

How it works: Online affiliate marketing works by encouraging other people to send traffic to your website for the promise of a certain payment. For instance, you could say that for every new customer that your affiliate sends you, you’ll pay them $30, or perhaps you’ll give them 10% of the order. The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you only pay when you actually make an sale or acquire a lead. On top of that, though, you’re also increasing awareness of your business and getting traffic sent to your website for free unless they sign up or make a purchase.

Finding A Good SEO Company

If you want your company to show up on top when users search for your services, then you’ll need the best SEO company to help you beat the competition. Unfortunately there are quite a few companies out there that claim to be the best and therefore it can be difficult to determine which one really is the best SEO company to use. The best way to start is to ask the following questions:

  • Is their website ranked high?
  • Do they provide client testimonials and/or portfolio of work done?
  • Is SEO their primary business?

Is Their Website Ranked High?

Search engine optimization is all about improving search engine ranking and if you’re trying to find a good SEO company then you’d think they would at least be able to rank high on Google right? I mean, if they’re unable to get their own site ranked for “SEO Company” do you really think they’ll be able to get your site ranked for your industry? SEO is constantly evolving and it’s imperative that you’re working with a company that stays up-to-date on the changes that search engines make on how they rank sites. For example, the summer of 2013 brings a new update to Google’s ranking algorithm which will work to weed out spam articles and back links. So an SEO company that offers to get you hundreds or thousands of back links, while that used to be good for rankings, will now cause your site to low rank and likely get lost in the plethora of search results.

Are There Testimonials & Portfolio?

Unfortunately, as search engine optimization is a young industry, there are quite a few SEO companies springing up all over place but are they really experienced? Can they help your website dominate its industry and pass up your competitors on the search engines? It’s important that a good SEO company provides testimonials and portfolio of work done for their clients. This will allow you to not only determine whether the SEO company provides good customer service and quality work, but also shows whether they have extensive experience. If their portfolio consists of one, two or even six sites, it sure doesn’t give much confidence in them. You generally want to see an SEO company that can proudly display at least 10 examples of sites they have built or provided SEO services for. Now check them out, do the sites look good? Try going to one of the sites in the portfolio, determine what that company does and where they are located and do a Google search for them. Do they rank high? A good SEO company will not only get themselves ranked high but will also deliver results to their clients. That what you want, results. A company can promise you the world, or charge you next to nothing for their services but the bottom line comes down to the results they deliver.

Is SEO Their Primary Business?

The company that you hosts your website with likely offers SEO. A lot of internet companies will offer SEO services as an add-on service to their primary services. Unfortunately this generally means that they are outsourcing the SEO work or aren’t very experienced with it.

When a company outsources their SEO services, this adds extra cost which leads to getting very little for what you’re actually paying. Outsourced services can also result in miscommunications, poor customer services and long turnaround times.

If a company offers SEO services as add-on service but does the work in-house, there’s a good chance they aren’t very experienced with SEO and/or don’t actually put much effort into research and training. Therefore they are likely to provide sub-par service when it comes to SEO services.

How To Find The Best SEO Company

Once you’ve asked yourself the above questions, if you’re still not sure which is the best SEO company or are having trouble sifting through all the results, then you may want to consider searching for a local SEO company. Try doing a search on Google for “seo company in [insert your city or state]” and find a local company. Again, make sure to ask the above questions to determine if your leading local SEO company is qualified to provide the best possible service and has proven results.

Found This Article On Google?

The Costs of SEO Services

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) can come with a wide range of prices when offered as a professional service. SEO involves optimizing a website to give it a better chance of ranking high on specific key terms used in an online search. If you’ve just started looking into SEO then you may be surprised to find that you will likely come across an extreme range of prices, from a couple hundred dollars up to tens of thousands.

How The Costs of SEO Have Changed

Search engine optimization has come a long way since the origin of search engines. A couple years ago you could hire a company to help rank you on search engines and only pay a couple hundred bucks resulting in pretty high rankings within a few months. Unfortunately, search engines, like Google, have continually worked to provide the best, most relevant search results possible and in doing so they have created algorithms that now pick up on bad SEO practices and spamming techniques which were used in the past. Now, to get ranked well on a search engine, you must do a lot more quality work to get that same ranking and therefore the cost of SEO services has gone up.

A high performance, experienced SEO company will now charge much more for SEO services as more work must be done to get good rankings.

Search engines want to see quality, original content and therefore if your website provides that, then you’re more likely to rank higher on searches. To accomplish this goal good quality articles and content must be written for your site and blog.  This takes time and expertise, resulting in higher costs.

City-Specific SEO VS National SEO Costs

Another factor involved with SEO is the geographic target. If your business is a local company that only wants people within your local area to find you, then it means less competition and less work needed to be ranked. For instance, if you’re a local business hiring an online advertising & seo company, the fees may range from $1500 to $3000 per month. On the opposite side of the spectrum, if you’re a national or international company in a competitive industry and you want to show up on the first page of Google, you’ll likely be looking at a cost of $5000 to $10,000+ per month for quality SEO services.

Why There’s A Monthly Cost For SEO Services

As you may already be aware, search engine optimization does involve tweaks to the website in order for search engines to read it better and also help the verbiage focus its aim on specific keywords. That is just the start of SEO. Getting enough “oomph” to snag that coveted spot at the top of page 1 will require a lot more work though and requires regular website updates and new content. It generally takes about 6 months to get the most out of quality SEO work at which point you would need to maintain your top position or keep working to push above your tougher competition. Companies that offer a one-time-fee of SEO services may possibly be able to get you ranked on search engines with just one month of work but it is likely that your site will quickly slip down the slippery slope of rankings as your competitors continue to optimize their sites and add content, making you look like the unpopular kid in school.

Do I Really Need A Lot of Money For SEO?

If you’re a young company then you may find it difficult to fork up several thousands of marketing dollars to afford SEO services that actually work. Thankfully there are quite a few other methods of online advertising that can help and have a smaller price tag. One of the most cost effective methods being Remarketing. Remarketing allows you to advertise to people who have already visited your website by following them around the web and showing your ads to them. It works well because most users who have already visited your site are likely to only click on your ad if they are finally ready to come back to your site and convert into business. In most cases you only pay per click, so the costs are very low.

Caution is key to avoiding scams, so make sure you’re only using the best company for SEO services. If a company charges significantly less for SEO, then you probably won’t get much for it. A great way to see if a company really knows how to do quality SEO services is to do a quick search on Google for “SEO Company”. The site that is ranked on top obviously knows how to do SEO as they’re able to keep themselves on top and can likely keep you on top as well.

New Google+ Plus Header Image Size

The new header that Google has come out with in March, 2013 has these dimensions…

  • 1060 pixel width
  • 600 pixel hieght

So the head is 1060×600 pixels in size.

The profile picture appears as a circle and hovers over the image at 145 pixels from the bottom of the image on the left so account for that space being blocked.
